The Art of DJ'n

Performed at the BCC Cultural Arts festival. Tribute to one four elements of Hip Hop

Originally Written November 2009

I was born into this art of DJ'n.
Known as a disc jockey, a DJ,
but most importantly
a certified turntable-ist!
A bad mutha- SHUT YO MOUTH!
A professional author of this
complex beats of scats and scratches called Hip-Hop
"And you don't stop"

See from me came B-boys.
You know? Break boys.
And oh yea!
Those MC's...yeah I made those.

I have been pleaded to by the masses.
From the poorest to the highest of social classes
with lines like
(sung)"DJ, Please. Pick up the phone I'm on the request line"
and
(sung) "DJ, wont you play this girl a love song Ooo!"

Yeah, back at time when this type of music was considered wrong.
But thank God for Cool Herc and Grand Wizard Theodore
for exposing this beauty for everyone to adore.
This score! Has never been measured in eight notes on staffs
with black marks with flags.
Just plain artistic expression.
Scratching my soul out on black vinyl.
Leaving myself stretched out on records.
Knowing you get all of my when you hear the final
(scratching) I'm out!
